2005 B12 Mods Complete- tell me what you think
« on: June 28, 2006, 11:52:37 PM »

Finally got the B12 like I want her. As of today, 1900 miles.

Shopping list:

Mikuni RS36 flatslides w/pods
Yosh RS3 titanium race can w/midpipe
'89 GSXR750 intake and exhaust cams
APE manual tensioner
HS +5 advancer
HS PAIR removal
Race Tech 1.0 fork springs w/gold valves
HS fork brace
Honda 1100XX Helibars
WP Durasport rear shock w/remote reservoir
Renthal 530 15/46 gearing
Dunlop 208ZR tires
NRC engine covers
Galfer lines
Zero Gravity screen
Tobin custom seat

Very happy with the engine config, it revs much quicker now.

I went with the RS36's and stock headpipe to help minimize loss of midrange. Result is a small acceptable loss of lower midrange which is more than made up for when she swings thru 6000 rpm.

Serious power happens now by 6500rpm and she pulls hard thru 10,000. It is a very streetable combo. The RS carbs are much easier to tune than the stock CV units as they do not rely on vacuum to regulate the slides.

Suspension is sure and firm. Front end feels very sure footed and planted at all times. The rear does not wallow and is rock solid under cornering and acceleration.

Tobin seat is 2 in lower than stock and makes you sit in the bike. Very good complement to the lower bars. Overall very pleased with the setup.

Since you changed out the carbs, what did you do with the doo hickey on the right side of the carbs(sorry, don't have my book with me and can't think of the name at the moment).

What kind of midpipe is that?? I have a yoshi bolt on and hate the location of my exhaust.

TPS is simply disconnected. There is a cannon plug under the tank for it,  disconnect here, ziploc the leads, and ziptie to the frame. The bike screams now with the RS smoothbores and looks cleaner without all the midsection bulk the stock bike has.

The midpipe is the Yosh that came with the RS3.

Have we not already had the shock conversation?

Thanks for the complements, it was fun putting all the pieces together watching the bike transform into what I knew it could be.

Sweet. I might look into getting a slip-on and selling the bolt on.

I guess you mentioned how much your shock was earlier. It was late and I didn't bother looking.

That's a great looking Bandit and by the mod list I bet it corners great!

One question, if you'd be so kind:

I looked at the Tobin seat website but would be very interested in knowing what you paid for the seat mod...at 5'6" I could use a 2" drop without sacraficing handleing or clearance.  Also, is it comfortable?  Any info would be greatly appreciated!

 :beers:

His prices are posted, it was $225 plus $40 return shipping. I am very happy with the product, I'm 6'1 tall and 200# -  it fits me well.

I wanted to sit lower into the bike to match the position of my clip-ons. Only thing I'd change is to move the backstop about 1.5" aft, but that was my fault as I marked the seat where I wanted it.

Very high quality stitching and fit overall. Tobin is easy to talk with over the phone also. Good customer service as he held the seat and shipped it on a specific day requested by me.

Good Luck, Ed.

looks beaut man. I'm about the same size as you (bit bigger), can you tell me how much difference the 1.0 springs made? I've put racetechs in both my previous bikes cause of my weight, but really haven't felt it necessary on my bandit. an improvement would be amazing, might have to visit the springs bloke...

I have a 1G bandit, but adding the 1.0 Racetech springs and gold valves is the best improvment I have done yet.  No more massive front end dive, and over terrible pavement it sticks like glue now. My weight is 190.

Looking good, Ed!  :bigok:

In your first pic, the fabbed side cover looks white from the sun/angle taken... I thought you'd painted it, until I saw the other shots.
(FWIW, JMHO, etc... I like the white look, looks more 'finished'.)
