Bandit 650 top end onto 1st gen Bandit 600 ?
« on: February 09, 2006, 02:43:52 PM »
Hi all, this is my first time post after lurking and learning for a while.

I currently have a 97 Bandit 6 with 34,000 miles on the clock and runs ok.

I have access to a friends accident damaged Bandit 650 with only 150 miles of use. Although the 650 is damaged beyond repair the complete top end including barrells, head, cams and carbs are untouched.

So i was just thinking if any of you guys have any experience of this conversion, or if you have any idea if the top ends could be swapped?

Any info or ideas would be great.

Thanks in advance guys

Rob :beers:

Haven't heard of anyone giving that one a go, but I see no reason why not when the 750 top end will go.

How about a complete engine swap? Can't you take the  whole engine and clean up any damaged engine cases?

Hi guys

Thanks for the reply but a complete engine swap is not possible as the crankcases took most of the impact.

Have had another look at his 650 today, and stripped it a bit more and it also looks as though the crank itself is OK as is the clutch. - Might also make useful spares for the future if they fit my 1st gen.

Would be great to hear from someone that has done something similar before I pull my own engine to bits.

Rob.

Are you looking for the extra 50 CC? The new bandit has been bored out. If you wanted the extra 50 cc I would order the parts to fix the 650cc motor and pop it in.
2005 Bandit 1200, Modified Holeshot Stage 1 with 17.5 pilots 2.75 turns out, and 110 mains 5 shims. Muzzy Slip on w/mid-pipe, stock filter. 1.5" hole in the airbox lid.

Yeah I know where ya coming from Rider, but im really trying to keep this project cheap and a new set of crankcases would be mucho expensive and alot of work.

In an ideal world I would like simply to swap the top-ends over and run her - but don't know if that would work?

Once again any thoughts are welcome - im in no rush as my 600 runs fine at the mo.

Hi

Think there are quite a few 600 Bandits in the UK fitted with the top ends from GSXR750s. Bolt on job apparently with the right model of GSXR750.

All the best

I would bet that they would bolt right on but you would also have to change pistons, as from what specs I could find the bore on the 650 is 2.9 MM greater. It appears that the 650 just has a wider bore & pistons, but the stroke is the same.

Bandit 600

Bore/Stroke : 62.6 x 48.7 mm
Compression Ratio : 11.3:1

Bandit 650

Bore x Stroke: 65.5 mm x 48.7 mm
