My boyfriend has a 600 bandit and has asked for some renthal bars for xmas. I have decided on getting him the streetfighter renthals. Is this wise?

I also know that he would love to jack it up, so my question today is what should the jack up kit be made from. I have been told 304 stainless steel but then someone else told me they should not be made from stainless steel as it is too weak. Is my safest bet to go to somewhere like www.banditmania.co.uk and pay £35 or will the ones from places like Ebay be ok. My concern is that people on Ebay are selling for about £7 which is considerably cheap when you compare to bandit mania and justbandit.co.uk so will the price reflect the quality?

The bars are a mater of taste and comfort. Wisdom has little to do with it I would say, so it's up to you two.

I made my own jack-up kit (aka dog bones) which was cheap and worked great. I'm sure most of the ones on the market are strong enough and reliable.
I can't speak for individual products though.

Well, the ones from Banditmania do come with fork preload spacers...
I had the Banditmania ones on my B12, but never bothered with installing the fork spacers. I only got rid of them when I went to a Hayabusa shock, since it lifted the tail with the stock dogbones as much as the Banditmania dogbones did with the stock shock - and I felt it would have been too much lift to have left the Banditmania dogbones in with the new shock.

One thing to consider... do you think you'd have any legal recourse from an ebay seller that sells you £7 dogbones if they break because they are substandardly made? We did have a member here that bought a used bike that had non-stock dogbones that broke. He wasn't injured, but under the wrong set of conditions, such a failure could be painful or deadly. IMHO, if you don't know what you're looking for or can't put trust in the ebay seller, you're better off spending the extra coin for a well known product.

Please buy the dogbones from Banditmania or some other "name" store. I was very lucky I didn't wreck when my dogbones snapped in a turn. The tire went through the rear fender and even chewed up my tool kit. There is some electrical stuff mounted on the fender that got moved around some but luckily not damaged. That could have been very expensive and if I had been on a busy highway instead of a country road, I probably would have been a speed bump that day.

Thanks for your help I will definatley be buying from a reputable dealer. Motorbikes are dangerous enough without putting shoddy parts on it.

Are there any other places apart from bandit mania that I can buy a decent jack up kit from as im having trouble getting in contact with bandit mania and xmas is looming. The Bikefarm ones are probably OK, but haven't heard of them.

I don't have experience with Banditmania's Bandit 600 links, but I had their links on my 1200 for ~20,000 miles. I took them off when I put a longer shock on it - which does the same thing as a jackup kit - so I didn't need them. I then sold them to a friend. He's probably racked up another 15K on them.
