can anyone instruct me on the stock airbox mod for the 1st gen b12? describe the expected performance gain?
i use a uni filter and do not want pods. I also have a 19" holeshot and midpipe no other mods... i need more bang for very little buck !!

Just a matter of drilling another 2" hole. If you do that,your bike may run a little lean. I read where duct tape was used to cover the hole back up by some,who did'nt want to rejet. When I still had the stock box on,I just pulled the snorkel out. That alone gave it a bigger intake hole without runing the box. With a slip-on,K&N filter,and the snorkel out ,I still went up 1 on the mains and adjusted the fuel screws out to 2 3/4 turns out. I still have the jets (105s ) if you need them. But I wo'nt be on line for at least a week. Unless there is a computer room at the Hotel.

Yeah, I drilled that hole, and removed snorkle. Leaned my B12 out ALOT. As I was out of time that day, put snorkle back and duct taped hole, and thats how it sits to this day. Id love the extra power, but just havent taken the time to rejet carbs, will do that when I sync them, whenever that is. I sorta take the if it aint broke dont fix it approach with my Bandit, as it has all the power I need, but still...

Does anyone know if this raises the sound just a little or is it significant. Racket gets tiresome pretty quickly.

I bought my bike 2nd hand with only 6K on it and a Yoshi slip on. It ran lean at slow speeds and bucked at parking lot speeds. A dealership recomended the cheap route for these modes. Raise the main jet one notch, drill out the low speed jet adjuster covers and richen them. It worked like a charm down to 1.5k on the tach. I am unable to detect any change in mileage.
There are no emissions tests on Bikes here, though. I understand some US states do have 'em. How this would be possible with such a zoo of bikes and years, is a mystery.
