Calling Cruisecontrol
« on: January 27, 2006, 12:24:29 PM »
Hey Cruisecontrol, just came across a problem that you might be interested in concerning the 4.5'' lights from banditmania...  I had a bulb burn out about 3 weeks ago.  I thougth it was just the bulb... then the other one exploded a week later.  I still need to figure out why, but that's neitehr here nor there...

When I had to find replacements, it wasn't that easy.  They don't have those at the hardware store so I had to go to a moto shop.  The only replacement bulbs that they could find in their catologs was for a 20 watt high/low beam that with the same configuration.... Then walks in one of those guys behind the counter who knows just about anything and everything that has been on a bike for the last 30 years.  He overheard the conversation and decided to step in and give us some help.  They went back to their supply room to see what they could find.  Turns out that an older style suzuki uses the same bulb configuration that the 4.5'' headlights use but it is a 30 watt bulb instead of 35 watts.  The saving feature was that it is a halogen bulb.

Even though it has less wattage then the original, it is much brighter I'm guessing b/c it's halogen.  It's about $10 a bulb whereas the originals were $3 for two bulbs but they are much brighter.  I know about as much about bulbs and electricity as I do thermo dynamics so I might have to do something to the wiring but I guess we'll find out.

Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that there is a better replacement to the stock bulbs for our lights if your interested.  I have the part number if you're interested.  I've already checked on Ron Ayers and you can order the bulbs from there if you ever need to but a Suzuki shop should be able to get them in as well.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks for the info. The part number would be great if you have it.

I had a globe go a week or two ago and have had NO success finding a replacement. I eventually put in a couple of H4 55/100w halogen globes with a fair bit of modification but blew the 15amp fuse when I switched to high!
I am not too happy with the H4's as they sit a little too far back in the housing and the result is not the best.

I will definitely speak to my Suzuki dealer about the halogens in the same configuration as original.

Cheers, Daniel.

The part# for the bulbs are 09471-12093 and the company is CandlePower.  They come in a little blue box wrapped inside with styrofoam.  I'm sure I don't need to tell you this but if you just go to the Ron Ayers website and just type that number in as is it'll pull it up.  I think they were $13 at the suzuki shop and $11 on the website... unless your ordering anything else their cheaper at the shop... that's a first I know!
