Author Topic: cheap Handle bar risers for sale??????????? (Read 5466 times)

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to get a count of people who may be interested in Handlebar risers for their bandits or any other bikes with 7/8 handlebars. I bought a used set off of ebay, and I still had to pay way to much for them. They are the ones that go up and back. this is the only actual manuf. I could find that makes them, besides selling on ebay:

The actual ones I bought Seem like they were made by some private machine shop or something becuase they don't look like the same ones in the picture at GENMAR's site.

I work in a machine shop and before I installed these risers, I measured them up and I think I could recreate something similar. The ones I got came off of a SV1000 they were actually pretty tight fitting on my bike, so the ones I will make. I will open up the clearence holes so they will fit a little better. Anyway I am not positive how much $ it would cost me to make them yet but I am pretty sure I can make these at a better price, and quality than ebay. They would be grit blasted then clear coated, since I do not have easy access to a place that will do anodize, and anodize would push up the $ a bit. You would have to reuse your stock Top clamp, and I would not be able to send the longer Brakline with it. I found on my bike 2004 1200s I was able to unbolt the junction block for the front brakelines attached to the forks to get the slack I needed to put the bars on. I would suggest buying the longer lines though. My junction block is just flopping around until I can fabricate a new mount higher up. Anyway how many are interested in these risers, so I know if it is worth it to make a program down in the shop.

Your probably going to have to build a set and post pictures before you get any feel for comittments.

They will look exactly like the ones in the picture from Genmars sight. They will be machined within +/- .010" tolerances.

Its not like I will chiseling them out of stone!!!!!

Matty: I'm getting interested in raising the bar on my 06 650. Same body basically as the newer 1200. I see some slack in the brake line so I'm wondering if I need to extend it?

I found these for $35 or so - I think they're generic. They look a lot simpler than the GenMars. These ones move the bar back and up , right? While the Genmars just move it up?

Whaddaya think? You want to make these?

The ones you mentioned are a very cheap solution to the issue. They only lift the bars up. They are also a very poor fit. Can you see where the bottom of it is just flat. That means you would have a big empty half circle where the old cradle was. You can see on the Genmar ones, as well as the ones I will be making that there is a 7/8 locating hub on the bottom of the riser. Not only does this make for a safer fitment, it also makes the installation look a lot cleaner.

For an update on these risers. I am still in the R&D faze of the process. Within the next couple of weeks I will be programing the Job down in the shop and hofully making my first set.

Yeah, I was talking to my nephew (he's Amurrican so he's smart) and he was telling me everything is done on computer these days. That would be trick to watch.

I agree with you on the little nub going down to fill that empty hole, but I am a big guy so I'm not sure if I want the bars to come back as well as go up!

Maybe it would be more comfortable that way?

Oh I see, well I am an average sized guy with short arms and legs. I might eventually end up making some of the regular ones that just go up and not back. Those of course would be cheaper to make. I am not sure how the bars are on an SV but I know on the bandit It probably would have been even more comfortable if they went up a little more than they did.

Anyway I will keep you guys posted on my progress.

Thanks, Matt. I wonder if I would be more comfortable with the thing back an inch and a bit, anyway? Seems to me I would be more upright so that might be a good thing...just hate to spend money and then not be really happy with the thing.

MY arms are so long, my knuckles drag on the ground when I walk,so we definitely are different builds.
