Author Topic: EBC, Galfer...or what brand of brake rotor (Read 2785 times)

So now that I know my front rotor is bent

and that i've found out that the used ones posted here are already sold... I'm looking at purchasing some new ones.
Do any of you use the Galfer or EBC contours? The Galfer is more expensive and probably now worth my money (although they win in the cool look factor). But so far my bike shop can get me the EBC's just $20 over the no name brand. I can actually get them even cheaper online. Opinions anyone?

I think either brand is good, another brand to look into is "Braking."
Motorcycle Superstore has Braking's OE replacement rotors on sale right now for $112.99 and their Wave rotors for $269.99. (Prices are each and in US$)

looks like the 112 is for the rear rotor...the front ones look cool though...darn things are backordered. This is the trouble in life, if you need things quickly you always lose out.

Sorry about that! I seemed to have missed that it was the rear one.
Should have known since it was so cheap.

What about used ones from a salvage source?

According to my BC friends that buy used parts from US sources, they don't pay any duty or GST/PST on used parts. But then they drive down, do their parts shopping and drive back... but they do tell them at the border what they have and aren't trying to hide it. I don't know if this would apply to shipped parts or not, but I would think its the same thing.

EBC was selling faulty Bandit rotors for awhile... they came "pre-warped" from the factory.

I *assume* they have the problem rectified now.... but still... I'd probably go with Galfer.

EBC's were out of stock, or on back order...or WAY to expensive everywhere I looked. Got some Galfer wave rotors coming in, blew my new riding gear budget on them, but I'll be able to stop and they'll look cool too. All these nice parts are going to make my bandit look like an eyesore in comparison.

Just search bandit and they are on the second or third page

Why buy new ones? if the thickness is still ok get then straightened. I don't know how things are at your neck of the woods, but I have 3 places that do a great job of straightening them out, less than 10 minutes away.

We must have all the talented engineers then.

Bob Martin engineering in ferntree gully does a top job, did my right front on the REX and it runs smooth as silk. He does a shyte hot job of straighten frames, yep he dit the REX with a bit of extra bracing. In fact he does heaps of brand new out of the box race bikes before they even see a track.

Planet Engineering in Wantirna South, old fella Max, has helped us out a few times with discs, now does the work for the Oleon Race team, if its brakes Max is the gurus guru.

Awesome Discs Ringwood, straightening and machining discs, is all he does, but has been priceing himself out of the market place. (BTW Max's son.)

So there you have it proof that Oz is the place to be
