Engine (Temperature) Paint

I'm respraying the engine of my 1G B6. Do I really need to use high temp paint, or can I just use normal car paint? I only ask as I'd like to do the valve cover a different colour (say orange, for example) but I can only find high temperature paint available in black, silver, white or blue.

I'd think you'd want to use a paint suitable for engine blocks, but you wouldn't need paint extreme enough for exhaust temps. Block paint, at least here in the USA, is available in a lot more colors that that... and Chevy Orange is pretty easy to find here...

Just because its a high temp paint doesn't mean it will disapate heat any better.  That is what I would be concerned about, overheating your AIR cooled engine.  The factory paint is a very thin coat, I would look into Pauls suggestion of finding "engine" paint before selecting a paint based on its temp rating alone.
