one more bandit gets a busa front end

Just thought I'd post some pics of the bandit to busa fork conversion. Thank to Mongo for some measurements and inspiration.
Before (just realized after starting to take stuff off that it be best to take a picture... so no my clutch doesn't normally hang at that angle)-

a picture of the wheel spacer, I decided to keep the Bandit wheel (mostly for the EBC rotors I'd already spent money on), the bearings were very easy to order to fit the thicker axle. There are three spacers one on each side of the wheel and the middle one inbetween the two wheel bearings.

the brake calipers are spaced inward using two washers. I went with a busa fender which needed to go on a serious diet...

here is as it sits right now, I DID end up going with the BUSA top clipon piece, I have no issues with the tank and while it looks odd it doesn't feel bad at all. On my quick test rides up the street I've had no issues...

still to be done is the steering stop and final mounting of the damper as well I haven't calibrated the vaypor speedometer yet...maybe I'll go out and do that right now.  :grin:
PS while I DO my own mechanical work in recent years more often than not I let my better half do the 'hard' stuff as it's so much faster that way... as such many thanks is due, especially for the headlight and instrument mount now. Give the man a hacksaw and some files and anything is possible. I can't imagine what he'd do in a real garage.

oh and it needs paint on the fender, a mirror put back on... it's all the little things that get in the way :grin:

Pardon my ignorance but what advantages does the 'Busa front have? I know I want to do suspension upgrades once my warranty expires.

well they are stiffer, USD forks feel much more solid. In my case it also changed the geometry to the bike, to better suit my riding now. Its literally a whole new bike.

New as in better handling I hope?... or more chicks flashing as you ride by?

I've never ridden a 'Busa so am not familiar with it's features other than they are fast machines. Is it just preload adjustable?
Anyone else have success with this or other front ends?

I haven't had a chance to ride it much yet, but in the short rides so far I've noticed a much faster turn in, a lot less inherent stability due to the reduced rake. Its not really about making the bandit handle like a busa, it's just the extra stiffness inherent in the USD fork design the reason lots of bandit owners use busa forks is that they have a nice length, there are plenty of other GSXR USD forks that work just as well. I've never ridden a busa but I'm guessing it handles nothing like my B12. Also yes they are adjustable but I haven't even begun to dial them in. However I DID enjoy the bandit with the stock forks after I had the race tech springs and heavier fork oil added. At the end of the day its just a matter of how you like to ride, and if it's really worth going through all that trouble for an adjustable fork and quicker turn in.

Thanks for the info. Still trying to figure out what I want to do with the front. Race tech springs and heavier fork oil may be the answer. I just find it a bit too soft unless I crank up the preload high.

Looks Sexy, watch the speed sensor cable on your Trail Tech there not really designed for the inverted forks or did you buy the one for the inverted set up?

Came up with a plate to stop the roll on my bars ended up machining a chunk of aluminum to mount to the Busa upper triple!




Ditched the Acerbis too!

ya my trailtech was for a BMW I think  :motorsmile: got it cheap because somebody never installed it. The speed sensor is actually routed to the rear wheel, where the magnet sits in one of the rotor bolts, very well hidden. And yes the mans idea not mine.
Front end wise I'm good...but it's running like crap... I'm guessing somewhere in all the wiring and jiggling around something is now less than perfect.

Oh and icemakk shamelessly I will point out that not only am I from the great white north I happen to have a set of those race techs springs for sale in the for sale section.... :roll:
