Front fairing swap from a 2G to a 1G
« on: October 17, 2005, 12:56:11 PM »
Ok, I am a bit bored at work today, and was thinking of a way to give my 1G bandit a facelift.  I love the new look of the 2G bandit 1200s, and was wondering if anyone has successfully swapped the front ferring/headlight assemblies from a 2G to a 1st G, and is this something your average DIY'er can do?  I am sure this has come up before but I couldnt' find any old posts regarding this.

A more specific question is, how different are the mounting brackets from a 1G to a 2nd G?  And can I install a 2nd G mounting bracket on my 1st G?

Thanks!

It's been done. I don't know how difficult though - or what you'd consider 'average skills" for the DIY'er. There's a guy on Max-Suz that did it. I'd imagine you'd need the 2G fairing frame as well as all the plastics. You may need to weld mounting tabs or fab adapter plates where the fairing mounts to the frame, though I'd guess the main mount on the steering head would likely be the same. You'd have to decide something about instruments, too since the 2G mounts them in the fairing instead of the triple clamp.

JMHO, but it seems like a lot of work for poorer headlights - even though you do get a newer look.
Maybe hold out for a 3G fairing?

I saw an old style Bandit fairing on an old style SV once, and it looked good.
You may also consider other Suz model fairings to see if they could be made to fit.

Thanks guys, this sure would make for a fun winter project!  Honestly though, my fairing on my 1G looks good and isn't damaged, so it would be hard for me to justify sticking money into something that isn't broke.  But slapping a GSXR front ferring or a SV or a busa ferring might look kinda neat.

Curiosity got the best of me here, so I had to see what has been done.
Thanks

Here's some crude photoshopping efforts....

Doesn't look too bad on there, Pete... but looks like the handlebars might be a little trouble, especially on the 1G... might have to go to drag bars or clipons... like the SV-S comes with.

There used to be a pic in the old Bandit Gallery of a B6 with the upper 2/3's of a Hayabusa fairing photoshopped on. Looked good, if you like the looks of the Hayabusa.

How about a TL fairing?

Yeah, you'd probably have to go with lower bars.
The SV I saw was a naked early model.

Ok, here's the ultimate fairing, if you're in your late 40's or older....

Pete, Pete, Pete, too much time on your hands!     :duh:

I guess I could stash a radio and speakers on that wind jammer.

I use to have a honda helix 250.  As goofy as that thing was, it was AWSOME for commuting.  The Kenwood stereo was super, and allowed me to hear The Bob and Tom show in the mornings on my way to work up to about 45mph.  I think the above ferring could get me there again.
