G1 racetech spring upgrade
« on: March 08, 2011, 11:19:55 AM »
Hello fellow banditos.  :bandit: I just ordered a set of .95kg racetech fork springs for the generation 1 gsf1200s. Does anyone know if the springs can be replaced while the forks are still on the bike? Even better, does anyone have a how-to on this?

I think it all comes apart....for that much work, spend the $100 and get the Gold Valves.  The springs and GV make a huge difference on the Gen 1.  Much more confidence in the turns and much less brake drive.  I'd say this is the biggest upgrade you an make with a Gen 1 bike.

Thanks LowRyter. Unfortunately the gold valves aren't in the budget for this go-round. I'm definitely hoping the springs at least help a bit with the front-end dive under braking. Anyone out there with some tips? I swear I read once the springs can be changed while on the bike but for the life of me, can't find the write-up now. I knew I should have saved it then....  :banghead:

I removed my forks from the yolks when i done my 1200 as i changed the oil seals and oil as well (oil probably been in there for ten years  or so, so its worth doing).
one tip is that if you do remove the forks, is to slightly loosen the caps on the  top while still bolted tight in the yolks .
