A friend bought me a compact stebel for xmas. I finally finished putting it on the bike about a week ago!
If you're interested in a stebel, its one loud freaking horn!!! And there are plenty install guides across the internet, but I think only one specific to the 1st Gen B6. And I think that guy had to mount a new switch to use it. Not elegant enough for me.
Although the stebel is marketed as compact, in its stock form, fit absolutely nowhere on my nakid b6. With no fairing I almost foolishly mounted it on the inside of the right rear swing arm! Talk about nuts. I was going to let it hang off the inside of the rear bolt on the hanger that holds the can. How long would have that lasted with all the vibration back there! After the thing fell off and into the rear wheel I would have been toast.
So..what I did was split the stebel into two parts by prying the compressor away from the horn. Then I got about four feet of clear vinyl hose (ID=5/16"), a 5/16" brass barb (from Lowe’s plumbing department - $1.09). I mounted the relay in the black plastic tray under seat. Suzuki engineers were kind enough to actually make that space available for additional relay's.
Then I mounted the compressor at the correct angle (they have to be mounted vertically or will break over time. Something about the oil inside not lubricating correctly) inside the right rear fairing that runs along the seat. I then cable tied the compressor to the frame bar. I took the black plastic "horn" part and dremeled off the one side of the plastic clamp that used to wrap around the compressor. And then half the other side. This side would act a bracket. I removed the stock horn and saved the flat piece of metal bracket that held it in place.
I got about 6' of 14g wire from Home Depot. Spliced some on to the black ground wire from the relay, then taped the now longer black ground wire and the blue accessory wire (from the relay) along the length of clear vinyl tubing. Then I slipped the wires under the tank to the front of the bike and out through the gap on the black plastic frame fillers. Connect the blue horn to the black/orange wire and the black ground wire to the other stock horn wire.
Oh yeah, make sure you now connect the vinyl hose to the brass barb now sticking out of the horn.
To mount the new horn I saved the 3" long black piece of metal that held the old horn to the bracket on the headlight
I took two pairs of pliers and twisted it. This added a nice spiral effect to the metal. Now I could use it mount my new horn right on the front of the bike.
If you are in a garage, stick your fingers in your ear and have someone else turn the ignition key and press the ORIGINAL horn button. Make sure you watch their face, you wont be able to hear what they say!!
