GSXR or Hayabusa rear shock
« on: April 18, 2006, 08:02:45 PM »
I know this topic as been beaten to death quite abit, but I still havent found solid enough information to make my decision final.

I own a bandit 1200, 2004 model year.
and I have picked up a 2003 gsxr rear shock
and a busa 2002 rear shock as well, both under 20 bucks on ebay so
I couldnt resist.

all the reading ive done talks about using older (mid 90's and later) shocks
im hoping both or at least one of these will fit.

What do you guys think, I dont mind grinding a bit here or there, but
im a big guy, 260ish and ride two up sometimes, so any extra ride height or a stiffer shock Im not gonna complain about.

Thanks
-Ben

I posted this earlier, in another topic.  But here it is again:

Yes the busa shock works on 1st gen b12. I have one on mine and love it! However it is not a direct bolt on, some grinding is required, but can be installed in about 1.5 to 2 hours. It will raise the tail end considerably, but this can be corrected with longer dogbones, I made my own bones about 10mm longer than stock. There is a pretty good write-up on www.maximum-suzuki.com about this.

For the record I weigh about 250 lbs.  And it works great for me.

You can always try them both and see wich one you like the best. Make sure you start out by setting your sag. I set mine with riding gear on and set it between 25-30 mm (3/4-1"). my WP,I sent it back and they put a heavier spring on to get my sag dialed in. I don't have to fart around with it much,I might put it on befor heading to the rally. My GSX-R shock, I'm still farting around trying to find where I like it best.

But alphabenson has a 2nd generation Bandit (2004).  So the Busa shock should more or less drop in with no grinding.

Not sure about the other one...
