Busa shock settings
« on: January 30, 2006, 11:03:20 AM »
I'm putting my 'Busa shock on this weekend.  I'm going to leave the Bandit dogbones on and not use lowering links.  But about the shock's adjustments...what does what?  I see screws top and bottom for adjusting something...which does what?  I read that I can adjust compression, dampening, and rebound.

I was thinking of starting off with everything set at the middle of its adjustment ranges.  Sound about right for an initial setup?

Also, I would like to have a copy of the shock page of the 'Busa manual to keep in my owner's manual.  Anybody got one they could scan and send me?

Don't send him, post it here. There are more of us that could use it :)

The large spring you see on the shock is how you adjust the Preload. The Preload is the most important item to set for yourself and your bike.

The strange-looking round reservoir hanging off the top of the shock is the Compression Damping. This is charged with nitrogen.

The small screw you see on the bottom of the shock is to adjust the Rebound Damping.

Here's good info:

Well, evidently no one has a 'Busa, nor a manual, nor knows the factory default settings that the shock comes with.

Rats.

The 'Busa shock is on.  With the factory default settings.  I'd say it's a rather remarkable difference in the ride.  I guess I made the right choice doing the swap.

Now, on to the front end!  Will it be Progressive springs, Race Tech Gold Valves and cartridge emulators, or Gixxer front end?  Only The Shadow knows....

Bwaaa hahahahahahaha!

Could you elaborate for us stock-shockers???  I'm contemplating future mods and sorta torn on what to do first - engine or suspension.

Well, I'm not good at written reviews, so...hmmm...

The ride is smoother, no harshness.  Feels like it's actually absorbing shocks, rather than transmitting the jerks, bangs, and bumps to the seat and pegs.  Hard to put what I feel into words.  It's everything I don't feel now.  This is exaggerating a bit, but it's more like floating above the surface, instead of on it.  Think of it that way.

Anyway, I'd do mods around the engine, before getting into the engine itself.  I don't know if I'll ever tinker with the engine.  It's already a monster.  But you never know...

Hey, does it get very cold where you are?  That V-Strom handguard installation I did to the bike has been a godsend and was cheap to do!  Thought about that little mod?

Not any colder than where you're located....   :stickpoke:  (look at the sig)

Thanks for input... Not sure I need to upgrade the engine/exhaust.  I like the power and quiet of stock.  I wouldn't mind more power but would rather put money where it's most needed.
