Thanks for the compliment. I cut off four sections of metal (two posts and two tabs). Ground down the left over weld beads and then a little black spay paint. I also plugged all the open tubes with various stuff I had around my shop.
I still might fuss with the fairing bracket one more time to shorten the yoke (how far it projects out from the head tube). If I'm going to do this then I'm going to make a jig so that I don't screw up the headlight placement, etc.
Great to hear that you’re taking a welding class. Are you learning Stick, Mig, and Tig? I worked 5 years at a metal fab shop and this old guy that was there could weld iron with a gas torch. He was incredible. His welds look like a row of dimes lying staggered on top of each other.
