HOUR METER AND CASE GUARDS
« on: May 30, 2005, 01:55:39 AM »
I WAS THINKING OF PUTTING AN HOUR METER ON MY 2K1 B12, HAS ANYONE DONE THIS?

ANY THOUGHTS ON POSSIBLE PROBLEMS FROM CONNECTING THIS ADDITIONAL ELECTRICAL DEVICE?

HAS ANYONE FOUND A SET OF "CHROME" CASE GUARDS FOR A 2K1 B12?

THANKS...........

For chrome engine guards.......

Not sure where to hook up an hour meter.   I guess any switched circuit will do.   They can't draw much, and I doubt it needs to be somewhere where you can see it all the time.  Maybe tap into the tail or headlight, and stash it out of sight in the tail, or in the fairing? :?:

You can get a decent looking hour-meter from Briggs & Stratton.  It is self powered (internal battery/digital display).  One wire is grounded to the frame and the other wraps around a spark plug wire.  No drain to the electrical system occurs.  Not sure how it would work on a four cylinder engine but for $10.00 it might be worth checking out.  I use them on the riding mower, pressure washer and generator.

I can't think of any chrome case guards.  I got some factory suzuki guards on ebay for about $40.  You could take a set of these to a plating shop and have them strip and chrome.

Those brackets are kind of funky looking, I think I like the factory ones better.  That big bracket on the front is ugly.  They look a little more stout though and might hold up to a crash better.

I would think, am about 99% confident, that hour meter would read accurate regardless of number of cylinders, as i think spark plug induction is just a trigger to start the clock running.

Renthal case guards look a bit V-Strom to me, but they GOTTA be easier to mount than Suzukis...  geez, I may be emotionally scarred by that experience for years...

TAKE A LOOK A MY CASE GUARDS.  THEY ARE CHROME AND THEY CAME FROM REV'S PERFORMANCE.  (FATHER'S DAY PRESENT)

NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF CASE GUARDS YOU CHOOSE, JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU CHOOSE A GOOD QUALITY SET.  OF COURSE IT IS MUCH CHEAPER TO REPLACE A SET OF CASE GUARDS THAN TO REPLACE AN ENGINE.

(P.S. THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION ON THE HOUR METER.)

THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN JUST AFTER I INSTALLED MY HOLESHOT BACKREST AND LUGGAGE RACK.

Paul, he's not typing with caps.....I guess he has a D+D keyboard, (Maybe came with the slip on?) which is just plain louder than the rest of them. :monkeymoon:

(Getfurious.....a little internet etiquette lesson.  Typing in all capital letters is considered to be the same as SHOUTING, and should only be used to emphasize something you're saying, or to indicate you're really pissed off.    Maybe you're using an old screwed up keyboard?   Anyway...it annoys some people....)
   :beers:  :stickpoke:

The 'net is a little strange about some stuff.
it's ok if you type in all lower case letters, BUT IF YOU TYPE IN ALL CAPS, SOMEBODY WILL GET ANNOYED!   :duh:
