Author Topic: Busa Shock Help? (Read 4417 times)

Scored a Busa shock on E-bay for $24 today (ok. $40 if you count shipping) I want to have the spring powder coated and maybe rebuild the thing while I'm at it. Where can I find directions for taking the thing apart? Where do I need to go to have it recharged with nitrogen? Why have I deluded myself into thinking this is a good idea?

Doesn't sound like a good idea at all to me. You will certainly spend more money in painting and recharging than just buying another one. What makes you sure that it needs recharged?

I bought mine for about the same price with a claimed 2000 miles on it. THe shock did look new, and I installed it and it rides exceptionally well.

Have you tried it out yet? As far as looks, I don't think you can really see it much on the bandit anyway.

Intrested in why you changed to the Busa shock. Did you find what you wanted with the Busa? How much did it raise the but?

On a 2G it will raise the tail ~1.25" probably close to 2" on a 1G.

Not sure it sounds like a good idea to me either but things like that seldom stop me

Some times I do things just cause I can, not cause they need doing. Go figure. And besides, just cause I have the knowledge, doesn't mean I'm gonna use it.

I haven't installed it yet. I'm probably gonna wait a while so I don't lose any riding time over the summer. I hope to be posting shortly after I do it, bragging that it was the smartest suspension thing I've ever done.

Paul. So this would be compinsation after putting on the Corbin Gunfighter & Lady ( said to lower about an inch)?

Where the rider sits is closer to the swingarm pivot, so the tail raise from the shock doesn't affect seat height for the rider by the stated amount, that's more like how much higher the tail light is.

Red, this might be true but on my 1g it sure as hell increased the seat height. I am 6'1" and if I were any shorter I think It would be very difficult to ride.

I didn't say it wouldn't raise the seat height, just that it won't go up as much as the tail light. Also, the Busa shock on a 1G raises the bike almost twice as much as a 2G, so it would be more noticeable on your 1G.

Could anyone give me some tips on set up on a busa shock? the new shock feels good but it makes for rigid ride. To change this do I loosin up on the pre load? The bike only squats about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch when I sit on it. I`m about 250 lbs. Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't recall where I set the preload, but put the dials in about mid-range (9-10 clicks).
