Risers and Barbacks for a 1250S
« on: April 27, 2007, 08:58:34 AM »
I'm in the process of breaking in a new (what else?) 1250S and find the bars are too low and too far forward to suit the pin holding my left shoulder together.  An inch up and an inch back would probably not mess up the cables.  So far, I've found risers at Twisted Throttle - SW Motech - that fit an 06 1200, but nothing specific to the 1250S.   I looked into changing the bars, but I was told it would be a crapshoot and probably more expensive in terms of buying the bars and swapping the controls.  My seat is in the low position and raising it would probably make the situation worse.  Can anyone tell me if the 06 and 07 bikes have identical bar set ups?  Does anyone have some good advice on this subject?

My 2 cents...

As far as I know the '06 and '07 are the same in most areas except the engine, radiator, and maybe some things with the frame downtubes and such The bars should be the same. or very similar.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of "risers"... to me it doesn't make much sense to bolt on more extra stuff when you could do the job right and just replace the bars. They should be standard 7/8" diameter bars and there are many styles and shapes to choose from.... plus they have them in anodized colors if you want to "bling" it up a little. I like the satin black.

Just keep in mind that whether you use risers or change the bars, the length of your brake/clutch hoses is a factor. They may be fine if you just go up and back an inch or so, but much farther than that may require longer hoses... a little more $$$ and labor changing the hoses and re-bleeding the hydraulics might be worth the comfort, though.

They probably look like the photo below uninstalled, they probably don't affect the looks of the bike much.
