Just installed V-strom hand guards on my Gen 1 1200
« on: October 31, 2006, 06:52:55 PM »
The install went very well and was a snap. It took about 20 minutes to do. I rode the bike this weekend with 40 degree weather and it wasn't too bad. It keeps the air off of your hands and with my heated grips I didn't wear winter gloves.
If you do decide to make this mod make sure you order the 650 V-Strom grips as they come complete with all the hardware. They evidently are an option on the 650 and come standard on the 1000.
They were less than $50.

pics, pics, pics, please!!

I want to do this mod, too, but I think I'd have to dump my Throttlemeister to do it..

Then there's the question of bar-ends.. what to get?, and how does this mod all work together.. ??..

here's another thread on this topic.. useful, but mostly about the 2nd gen b12..

I use KTM adventure handguards on my Badnit in the winter.  They are almost a perfect fit.  They are a softer plastic than the V Strom ones, so you can bent to fit exactly.
That's impressive,
and I'm not easily impressed.

Do tell, Russ!

Can we get some pics of those KTM guards on your b12?

Can you buy a "kit" with mounting hardware for the KTMs just like you can the Vstrom ones?

  I like options!

Sorry, just checked - no piccies....

A mate works at a KTM dealer, so he got them for me, real cheap (so I don't know what the retail price is...).

Came with all mounting stuff, just had to wrap some tape round the parts whick slide into the bars, the KTM bars must have a smaller ID.  Apart from that, no mods - straight fit!  10 mins had it done!

hmm, sounds like those KTM guards don't allow the continued use of bar-ends since they slide into the bars..

I like that about the DL650 ones, although I suppose a bar snake or something would do the trick, too
