Kat 750 swap question
« on: May 19, 2006, 10:54:39 PM »
Hey guess,

It been a long time since i posted here, but anyways onto my question.  I decided to buy another bike, but cant bring my self to sell my '00 B6.  So, i want to use the B6 as a project bike and swap an Kat 750 setup.  Is there a specific year range of the motor that i should look for?  And is there suspension stuff i should i take into consideration?

Thanks,
David

Any year air/oil cooled 600, 750, 1200, or 1100 will fit with no problems. All mounting is pretty much the same. Early GSX-R750 and 1100 motors are what most people go for.  One thing you'll need with any of those motors is the oil pan and pick up from YOUR B6 because all the others are too large to clear the frame of the B6. All the ignition can be swapped with ease.
Get you an early 750 motor, some first gen B12 carbs with Pods and a jet kit and you're in business.
BTW....I have a 750 if you're interested

Engine parts?
« Reply #5 on: June 09, 2006, 04:44:07 PM »
Do you guys know if engine parts are compatible? I know of a 86 GSXR 1100 engine with a Yosh big bore kit but the tranny needs work. I wonder if the GSXR top end will drop onto my B12 bottom end? I also wonder how much power that thing must put out. I think the stock GSXR 1100's put out 130hp.

I'm not so sure about the '86. Those were 1052cc motors and are a bit different. The '89-'92 motors are 1127cc and much more closely related to the 1157cc B12 motor. What I do know is, the 1052 cranks are not interchangeable with the 1127/1157 motors and the 1052 starter clutch & signal generator covers are smaller, like the 600/750 motors.

The '86 1052 motor put out an advertised 128hp to the B12's 98.

The whole 1052 motor will bolt into the Bandit though...

The 1052 crank will fit in the 1127 motor, you have to use the rods and clutch basket from the 1052. It makes a great engine. I spun a bearing on a 1216 and fround a 1052 at the Suzuki shop in Tyler, Tx., The engine ended up as a 1196 cc. I still have the 1052 cases, cylinder block, and trans.
If I didn't have a Suzuki, I would have a Kawasaki

I was inquiring about doing the same thing. I heard that everything is bolt on and will fit in the frame without any fabrication. this the perfect upgrade because of the instant 20 hp gain ( 73 hp/Bandit vs. 92/Katana 750) and the lighter frame ( Bandit 600 are lighter than even the Katana 600). The only downside is possible breaking of the speedometer cable when revved excessively hard due to the engine wanting to spin the speedometer needle to 160mph (according to Katana 750 speedometer) and the limited 150 mph on the Bandit 600's speedometer. Tha Katana 750 engine has a top speed of 142 mph in a Katana 750 frame off the showroom floor with no modifications. This will increase in a much lighter Bandit 600 frame and a few modifications such as a jet kit. Is there something else I am overlooking with this upgrade.

The only thing that matters is how fast you can get from 0 to 60, because top speed is secondary
