First.... THANKS to ALL that posted pics of their polished rims & bikes

I've yet to see one that made me think of not doing this. Free MODS are cool in my book!! I can get a unique look at low/no cost

I'm looking now for some info on method(s). Things like, Did you:

take the wheels off the bike?
take the tires off?
use paint stripper or wire wheel?
take the disc/rotors off, to access the spokes?

Ya-no just a bitt more info as to what we are in for (those of us thinking about polishing outer or whole rim)[/list]

Most don't strip the whole wheel, just the smooth portion. Most use stripper. If that's all you're going to do, then you don't need to remove the rotors. You don't have to remove the tire from the rim and you don't have to remove the wheels from the bike. If you leave the wheels on, you'll need to strip in sections so you don't run the risk of getting stripper on something you don't want it on.

when i did mine i did just the lips, used strip ease. did it in sections like paul said with the tires on the rim. once the stripper is worked in i used scotch brite pads to remove the rest of the paint. i then used 800, then 1200 wet paper to smooth the rest of the rims out. then hand buffet them out with a buffing wheel, and compound. i used mothers mag polish myself but any polish will do. here is a pic of mine when i was done. i also did the levers, grab rails ,and heal guards, and rear pegs.

thanks, just wish i still had the bike! i saw the wrong end of a guard rail in southern ohio and my poor bandit is no more

i still miss the bike, and have even looked at a used naked model lately.

How about polishing the B6 swingarm ? Is it the same procedure? Paintstripper and polish ?

The B6 arm is steel, so it's not gonna polish up that bright. If you want shiney, chrome it, or swap in an aluminum arm from a B12 and polish that.
