New Battery box for 1st gen Bandit 1200
« on: October 28, 2006, 09:28:44 PM »
I pulled the air box for pods recently and had the idea of moving the battery to the old air box area. Any one made such a mod?
My intent is to pull the complete plastic inner fender off and go to a carbon one I have seen on Ebay that does't appear to have a box for the battery.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be apprecicated.

Joe :thanks:  :monkeymoon:

You may want to first inquire from the seller or manufacturer about how this new carbon fender is suppose to work with or without a battery compartment so there are no surprises and you have a clear understanding of how it will fit or work before buying it. The stock battery compartment has been “engineered” to not only hold the battery’s heavy weight and provide easy servicing, but also protect the battery from weather, chemical spills and accidental shorting from a foreign metal object. So consider this as batteries are one of the main causes of electrical problems which you do not want to exacerbate.  If you decide to move forward with this idea you should plan on constructing a custom battery compartment that will fit. Recommend making a card board mock up to see if it will fit, be supported and look as you don’t want the battery falling out in the middle of your trip and shorting out on the frame which will make the alternator very unhappy.  I would really think about this one before cutting on the bike.
