Turn signal flasher and relay location?
« on: September 07, 2007, 11:24:04 PM »
I'm replacing my front turn signals with Buell signals ($12 ea. compared to $43 for OEM). Where are the flasher and relay located? The Buell bulbs are smaller, and flash faster. I'll pick up a heavy duty flasher if I can figure out where it is.

The relay is under the seat towards the back.... I can't find a "flasher" unit on the wiring diagram.

There are no relays under the seat. Mine is a 1G 1200S. I believe it's under the left bodywork. I can see 3 things mounted there.

Ah... missed the 1G part somewhere.  Sorry about that.

According to Haynes it is under the left panel but the "flasher" unit must be integrated into the relay or the two terms are synonymous (big word for the day)

OK, I put Buell signals on the front, will get another pair for the rear later. They look nice. The outer lens is smoke, and there is an inner amber lens. The part numbers are Y0503.02A8 (left front or right rear) and Y0504.02A8 (right front or left rear). They were $11.85 ea. The bulbs are 10W compared to the factory signals, so the flasher was going really fast. The "relay" is basically the same as an automotive flasher. I got an electronic version at AutoZone. It's a Tridon Stanton EL12. Of course, I had to remove the connector from the bike and use female disconnect terminals. The light blue wire goes to the terminal marked L (load) on the flasher. Works great now, and they don't stick out so far on the bike. There's a pic of the signal compared to the OEM, and on the bike here. Oh, you'll also need an 8mm X 1.00 pitch nut for each signal if you don't buy them with the signals.
