Yellow Reflectors
« on: June 10, 2008, 02:54:19 AM »
Is it a legal requirement for US bikes to have those yellow reflectors on the front forks? We don't have them in the UK and I'm wondering if it's equally a regulation for UK bikes not to have them? Every bike in the UK seems to come with a threaded hole on the forks for such a reflector but none come with them fitted. I'm just curious. Are they such a good safety item that the US makes them compulsory? If so, I'm surprised other countries don't do the same. I'm toying with the idea of getting some as the bolt and post would also make a convenient mounting point for UK tax discs.

I am in Canada and my Bandit has yellow side reflectors up front and red ones in the rear. Being seen by cagers is never a bad thing and if these help then I'm all for it. Mine will stay on.

Yes, it is a US DOT requirement.  Lots of us remove them though and I've never heard of anyone getting a citation for not sporting them.

We were talking with the sales guys here in Calgary and one of them pointed out that, they make a good excuse to ticket a rider if they are looking for a reason.  Our local enforcement types are not always the most fair minded of people, and when they target bikes for extra inforcement any little thing will do.
For that reason my son has left his under tail stock.  He is on an R6 these days and the police seem to have their annual hate on for sport bikes. I have never really gotten the custom bug and to date have only ever replaced my windshield.
Side note the Suzuki 07 double bubble fits my 06 like a charm.
