RaceTech fork Install Need Help Bad Soonest!!!
« on: March 10, 2006, 09:36:44 PM »
I got an 01 bandit 600 trying to upgrade my front forks to go along with new rear shock package. Following the book, removed forks from bike, remove cap and got the old spring, spacer, washer and drain the oil. The next step in the book was to remove the  cylinder bolt on the bottom. I guess this will let the rest of the inners fall out. The cylinder bolt will not release, both forks, the bolts just spin and will not come out. Talked to dealer suggested to put everything back together, tried that but could not get the spacer all the way back in. When I removed the everything the first time the spacer was just below the cap. All this was done without oil trying to get some tension back on the cyliner bolt. This was my first attempt at a fork rebuild but spending six hours about ready to throw it in the trash. Need some tips here on getting that bolt out or getting everything back together.

You have to use small impact ratchet for that. If it still doesn't come off it might be loc-tited. When putting back together we use a dap of silicone, they can be a bitch when loc-tited and may require heat if they used the red.   Make sure when you put it back together everything is clean. we doosh everything out w/ laquer thinner and blow it out.

I finally did get to come out by using a wooden handle. Now got everything ready to go back in but still stuck. I got the damper reinstalled with the inner folk all the way at the bottom, all way I could get the damper installed. Based review of parts, the inner fork rides up and down on the damper. With damper installed I cannot get the fork to ride up or down so I can not get my springs and spacers setup. I tried Oiling everything up pretty good but still no joy. Is there a trick somewhere or am I just missing something. Book is no help on this one. Any replys will be helpful. Thanks
