It will work on any bike with a similar setup, the question is will it do other bikes any good or not. Other bikes may or may not change 1 degree for each mm worth of slotting. Since it can easily be reset back to stock, no reason you can't try it.

The TPS shouldn't matter, this mod works on 1G (no TPS) and 2G (TPS) bikes. You're just fooling the black box as to the crank's true position.

I have seen Dales and Ivans dynochart`s .can someone tell me why an advancer would make more power with one than the other ?

Due to differences in how they modify air boxes, build their needles or choose their jets.

Dale claims the advancer increases throttle response more than it effects absolute power, which could be why Ivan doesn't see anything. If he's only looking at a dyno chart and not riding the bike, the difference may not be evident.

hi guys, just to clairfy . . . when the say 5degree they basically mean rotate it 5 degree clockwise right? does anyone have any pictures of when they done it?
would it be ok to have the new 5mm hole edge touch in the old outside edge of the hole

( c ) existing hole -------> CO <-----second hole ( o )

kinda want to measure 3-4 times and cut once lol

You just slot the existing hole as illustrated, which will mean the plate will rotate in a counter-clockwise direction. You's still be drilling in the "CO" manner (not OC).

Ive been thinking about doing this for a while but have only just got round to giving it a go.

The thing is ive completely removed the plate and am in the middle of marking out where the holes are to be extended to but the top left hole is less than 5mm from the edge of the plate. ie I cant extended to hole by 5mm without going over the edge.

Am I trying to extend an aftermarket plate? The bike had already had the carbs jetted and a K&N filter installed and I reckon he had an exhaust on there too due to some dodgy welding around the collector box. (I think it was an all-in-one exhaust on my model which has been cut then when it was sold to the dealer it had been returned to stock...hence the weld which has since rotted into two pieces!)

What do you think?

I can't see your link picure without registering with the other site...

Remember, you want to enlarge the hole into a "slot", not make a bigger round hole.

I have not done this mod, but as others have said, a small round file of the correct diameter looks like the ticket to me.

It would seem that those of you who have made this modification must move move to a higher octane gasoline to avoid knocking. I use 87 currently.

Up here in Beaverland gasoline has been a high tax cash cow for the government. The difference in Hi/Lo test is 10+ cents a Litre, (approx 40+ cents a US gallon).

Will 87 still work with this modification?

I did the Po Mans mod a couple of years ago, along with K&N Pods, and Holeshot stage 2, and have been running 87 ever since with no problems.

BTW, the one hole will be very close to breaking out, as you can see in the pic.

And FWIW, you shouldn't need to change the grade of your fuel from this mod. At least I haven't. (I'm not running the poor man's advancer, but a store bought one.)

Yea I have been running it for a while now, and i have no problems at all with running 87. I got mine from holeshot, but a 5 degree advancer is a 5 degree advancer.......
