1200 G1 oil cooler upgrade
« on: September 28, 2005, 10:26:43 AM »
What are the choices to upgrade the oil cooler on a 1999 1200?

Will the G2 oil cooler fit?

Thanks.

luc.

I think the 2G cooler fits, but I honestly don't remember for sure. You'd have to take some measurements of the mounts to be sure if you're looking for a bolt-on - unless, of course, someone posts up with experience.

There are aftermarket coolers - but they are pretty expensive. I've read of people adapting the coolers from the oil cooled GSXR's - which have the biggest OEM coolers, but be prepared to make your own attachments and fab up hoses.

The cooler from mid to late '80s GSXR's will fit without a lot of modification but is significantly wider than the stock one. It will line up with the outside line of your frame down tubes but whether or not you like the look is personal choice. Your other option is an after market transmission oil cooler but you will have to cut your lines and run connecting hoses. I found out from experience after my cooler split for no apparent reason and Suzuki wanted $790 [+ tax] for a new one. I would suggest if it ain't broke---
