Hi Guys,

Got a '97 Bandit with standard shock.

Does any one know what other Suzuki shocks will bolt in, and what they'll do to the bike ... i.e. raise it, lower it, make it crap.. etc. there's a 'busa one on ebay at the moment that looks ok...

The Busa shock is supposed to be a good choice. It raises the rear ride hight,but I'm not sure how much. I have a GSXR shock from a 1100 W That I would let go for $40.(plus shipping) It raises the rear ride hight 1 1/2". I have a Works Performance on my "98",it keeps the stock ride hight, but I had a pair of bones made to raise it 1 5/8". I like the extra hight for ground clearence when I get a chance to go to a track. Progressive makes a decent shock, Roamer had his for sale down in the parts section,but if I remeber right it might be sold already.
Once you get a good shock on the back,Race Tech gold valves and springs makes a huge inprovment on the front. That would run about $300. (not including labor) You set up the stacking order to your wieght and type of riding. Or you could just put a set of Progressive springs in and would be a improvment over stock. Dan

The 'busa shock is for 2nd Gen Bandits (2001-2005) It doesn't fit well on a '97.

Here's what I said in the 600/1200 FAQ, Shock transplant - GSX-R & Hayabusa thread:

..... SoSo .. just come back from the breakers and now I’m really confused.

All the shocks I attempted to bolt on were too long. That should just raise the back end – but no. The bike was on axle stands so the swinging arm was free but it would only drop a few inches before the rear linkage came in contact with the centre stand mount (I have no Centre stand).

The end result was that after trying GSXR750(an old one with no remote reservoir), and a GSXR600 I came home on stock!

I’m now thinking of getting a newer GSXR750 one off of eBay – but I’m worried that this wont fit either!

Should there be anything stopping my swinging arm fromn dropping further? … of have I got non-standard linkage?
I do have a 2002 R1 subframe - but that should make no difference.

Not all year GSXR shocks will work, the above post tells the yrs. that you can use.( I havn't tried or compaired other yr. gsxr shocks. I just went with Fast Larry's info,went with the GSXR1100W,had to do a little gringing,and it worked.) Dan

It would be nice if it fits. But I'd hate to pay for it to hang on the wall.I don't think it would fit.But I have seen Onlins for sale on Ebay for the Bandit befor.
If you want to keep the stock ride hieght,I'd just spring for a good shock. I ended up paying $500. for my Works Performance counting shipping. I sent it back and had them change the spring and damping for the cost of shipping,so I paid for shipping twice from Cal.to PA..It keeps the stock ride hieght,but I had bones made to raise it. I picked my GSXR shock up for $100.plus shipping,then had a local dealer recharge it for me for free.The Bandit was wearing it at the rally last year.It does alright,but I can only use 1 at a time. Offer still stands $40. plus shipping.
Penske also makes a good shock,you'd be back in the $500. range.

smooth operator! i was wondering if u still had that busa rear for sale? and if i need to do any mods to my 2G B12s or if i can use the original bones or need to throw in a longer or shorter set to raise the rear? and if anyone else knows were i can get a set of boots for makuni carbs rs36 my factory boots i have to push in alittle to let the carbs slide in i was hopen to find a set that would let the carbs slide in with no fighting or real effort to get them to seat

If you have pod filters, there's no mods needed to run a Busa shock and it'll raise the tail ~1 1/8" with the stock dogbones. If you run the airbox, you'll need to do a little trimming on it to get the shock in.

thanx red01! i no longer have the airbox and went with k&n air pods. now is this mod a pain in the ass or just a little elbow grease and some time turning the old wrenches to get it in? and while changen out the rear shock what would be better for changen out the front either going with the race tech rebuild or swapping out the front for a set of gsxr front forks and what forks will work the best on it? i am going to have to do either one soon for my forks seal is starting to leak and i figured in stead of just changing the seal i might as well either rebuild for a better handling or replace?

With pod filters, it's a simple matter of remove and replace. The bolts can be a little stubborn especially after a few years.

I haven't riden either a GSXR forked bike or a one with Racetech goodies, but I'd be inclined to go with the GSXR fork if you find a set in good shape.

cool! thanx for the info. i found what look to be a good set of gsxr 1100 forks on ebay but a little hesatent on buying just incase i have to rebuild them before throwing them into the bike! but maybe i will bit the bullet try it and hopefully i will lick out and they will not need to be rebuilt! thanx again for the info will let u know how it all works out!
