2G B6 suspension question
« on: November 05, 2005, 11:31:01 PM »
I'm considering the Busa shock for my B6. I've read this will unbalance the bike due to the stock forks. I'm pretty sure I've read some where that SV 650 fork caps with preload adjusters will swap into the B6. Would this mod be sufficient to balance the suspension or will I need new fork springs? Also, can you just put in a bigger spacer and different fork oil to help the front? I'd like to do this as cheap as I can but I want good results. Any ideas.

Thanks in advance, Dan.

When I first got my 02 B6 I added 3/4" additional preload (via ABS pipe) and raised the oil level by adding 20cc more fork oil (20W) to each leg. This raised the bike a little at rest and prevented bottoming under hard braking. (The additional oil level causing the air space to increase the spring rate at the end of the stroke).

I was OK with this for the past two years, but the bike still uses up the middle of its travel too quickly. But this is the cheapest thing to do.

I have just ordered Progressive Suspension variable rate springs, as based on most the conversation here, it is a noticable difference. Also, after 3 years the stock springs are not getting any better, just slowly sacking out some more.

Thanks. Thats kinda the way I'm leaning. Most people seem Ok with the Progressive springs. That and a Busa shock should tighten things up enough and not alot of $.

Progressive forks with the heavier fluid will work wonders.  You can make your own preload spacers from PVC so you can fine tune them for the Busa shock.

Hooray for me. The local Zuk dealer had a Busa shock with 1400 miles on it. I got it for 60 bucks! Looks brand new and didn't have to deal with shipping etc. Now all I need is some decent weather to install it and start tweaking the settings. I guess I'll soon find out how poor the front really is. :beers:
