Well,

I got my Scorpion for my 96 B6. Was easy enough to put on with the exception of one problem. The original pipe had a mesh type pipe gasket on the end that slid into the header. The Scorpion doesn't come with one, so I had a bit of an exhaust leak at the header collector. I was able to slowly work the gasket off the original pipe and tapped it into the header collector then re-installed the pipe and presto! No leak! I really like the sound of the Scorpion. It's much lower and quieter then I thought it would be which is great because I didn't want to loud cracking sound of something like the D&D. If I really get on it and wind it up, then it gets loud! Now maybe when I go riding with my friends I might be able to hear my own bike rather then look at the tach to see if my bikes even running!

FWIW the gasket you speak of is part of the collector, so that's why they didn't give you one.

I had the same problem. But now the gasket slips on and off with no problem. Only have to change it for the MOT.

Hey Red, is the part you're talking about listed on the muffler schematic (at bike bandit) as "4: CONNECTOR,MUFFL"? I just put a new exhaust on my 96 600 at the end of fall, and remember a thick gasket looking thing on the old midpipe, but I couldn't get it off without destroying it, and there wasn't a replacement included so I wasn't sure if I needed it. I couldn't feel any leaks but it sounded and ran like there might be one. Am I looking at the part I need to get?

Hey stevese,
You can prob get one from BikeBandit.com . I took mine off the original pipe as the gasket was stuck to it. Actually it was practically welded to it since it is the original pipe and has been on there since 1996! I carefully worked mine off with a screw driver. I stood the pipe up so the end with the gasket still on it was facing the ground. Then I carefully worked a flat bladed screwdriver under the edge of the gasket. Not far , juuuust enough to get the very tip under it. I did this all the way around it. I kept at this until I was able to work the screw driver in about an inch or so. Then I continued to work around the pipe while pushing towards the end of the pipe. It took me about 10-15 minutes but I was able to work it off.
Then I slid it into the end of the header collector facing the same direction that it originally went it. I then got a small piece of wood that as wide as the header opening and carefully taped the gasket in as far as I could get it, rotating the wood so I could tap the gasket in equally on all sides. Then I just re-installed my pipe and, Bingo! No leak.
Now if you have the time and don't mind all the work I'm sure you can do it. But the easy way is to get a nice new one. That way you can be sure it won’t leak at all.

Yes, #4 is it.
