Repainting The Bike
« on: February 24, 2006, 09:05:24 PM »
I have a blue 01 600s that I want to turn black.  Somehow blue doesn't look good with my hi-viz jacket.  Not that a hi-viz jacket is supposed to look good, but I want to minimize the damage.  What are my options and how much $ am I looking at?

Thanks!

Options:
1) Do all the work yourself
2) Do some of the work yourself and hire out the rest
3) Hire all of it out

Cost will depend on which option you use and what paint you use.

Are you going to paint just the bodywork, or the frame, too.
(Black bodywork with a blue frame would look good, too.)
If you're going to paint the frame, the whole bike is going to have to be taken apart.

Probably just the bodywork.  I think I can live with the blue frame...  I've never done any paint work.  Not that never doing something ever stopped me before.  But I have no idea where to start!

If you care what it looks like when you're done, you might want to practice on something(s) first.

Preparation is key. Do some surfing on the net on the subject, or check out some auto painting books from the library. There's also a few old threads on this board on the subject if you use the search feature.

It's not my strongest suit, so that's where I'll leave it so I won't make myself look too stupid.
