The VIRGINAL section of your tire tread, that has never made contact with the pavement....and maybe never will.
The narrower they are, the more you're leaning the bike over.
It's really not an indication of how well you actually corner, since you can have narrow CHICKEN STRIPS without cornering well.
Still, they're useful in impressing SQUIDS who have never been on anything but a totally flat road.
If you're really smoking in the corners, you'll have little balls of molten rubber on the edges of the chicken strips.
Not sure there's a name for these, but I kind of like 'Dingleberries'.
Maybe 'TingleBerries' is better......
