I put V-Strom handguards on my 1200 Bandit, later removing them to fit a larger windshield which got in the way.
There are two series of handguards from the V-Strom, the fittings are a bit different and I don't know of the latest 2005 offerings will fit.
You'll need new parts galore -- the handguards will need a bit ot trimming on the right side to clear the brake master cylinder, but it's any easy fix.
New pivot bolts for the clutch and brake levers are needed along with screws and washers to hold the guards in place. A search of the parts fiche at <
www.ronayers.com> will get the part numbers for everything -- look at both early and late model V-Strom 1000s as the 650s don't offer guards.
All in all a good project -- probably will cost about $80 or so after all the parts are in place. No connection to the handlebar ends so the weights aren't affected.
Check the archived messages from a while back -- I listed the part numbers and Ron Ayers prices for the conversion. I don't remember the exact date, but it was over a year ago.
