All of you folks with 1st generation 600 Bandits, what shock have you installed to replace the stock shock? I thought I had read that a 2g b12 shock would fit so i tried that. That shock seems to be a little too long to get all of the holes to line up. For that to work, I would have to find some way to compress the shock before it is installed.

IIRC, you don't have to compress the shock, just put it on the centerstand and remove the old shock. The rear tire should fall to the ground when it's disconnected and you just won't have to lift it as far to intall the 2G B12 shock.

The RF900 and GSXR750 (see FAQ) shocks that are used on the 1G B12 will work too - and they're better shocks than the B12 piece.

That's the way I thought it had to be done until I tried to do it. With the longer shock in place, the cushion lever (i think that is what it is called, piece of aluminum that attaches to the bottom of the shock, the dog bones and the frame) hits the side of the shock at the bottom of the spring and prevents the front of the cushion lever from moving up in to place to mount to the frame. I tried installing the bolts in different order so that I could force things in to place but it didn't work.

Hmmm... I don't recall Bobcat having any trouble installing his in his old B6.

I guess I need to start looking for a low mileage 1g b12 shock. That should go in without any problems.

I put a b12 shock in my 1g b6 without any problems. I can't remember if it was a 1g or 2g it came from though. What kind of adjustments does yours have. Mine just had 3 position rebound damping knob.

The 2g b12 shock I have has a 4 position rebound adjustment wheel on the bottom. I have a 1g b12 shock on the way now. I guess I will end up re-EBAYing the 2g shock.

flip how old is that 2g b12 shock? I have a 2g b6 and thought about switching out the rear while I'm changing out my front springs!. I only weigh 185-90 with all my gear so I'm not sure if the b12 wil end up being to soft or not though. what do you guys think?

With a 2G B6, I'd probably go for the Busa shock and if you don't want the tail raised, lowering dogbones should keep it normal. They're usually pretty easy to find on ebay cheap - maybe even easier to find than a B12 unit.

If you do decide to go with a 2G B12 shock, try to find one from a naked version, they're stiffer than the "S" model shock

Rear shock from GSXR 750 M model is a direct replacement for first gen B12. Raises rear of bike about 2 inches, it should fit B6.

I don't know much about the 2g b12 shock I have. It was an EBAY purchase last year. I don't remember what year it was supposed to be off of.The seller claimed it had low miles on it but I can't confirm that.
