Diablo Strata's on a B-12

I just put the new Pirelli's on my bike. As I ride I'll post a report on them. I'm going to run 38 PSI in the front and 40 in the rear. I was running the Metzler z-6's at 36 rear and 34 front presure. I got right at 5,000 miles out of that set. I've only rode about 50 miles on the new tires and like them very much so far, but new tires always feel so much better than old worn out ones.

Why did you change the front to 34 on the z6's i just put them on mine and have them set at 36 on both goto say though i havn't scrubbed them in yet but feel pretty good at the mo'

I droped the presure so the tire would heat up and stick better during our cold and wet winter.

I now have 800 miles on the Diablo Strata's. I've got them scrubed in to with in a quater inch of the side wall.  The little pich fork and twi's are half gone. I've rode in the rain, commuted, took a trip to the coast and back and flogged the tires on back roads. I've not had any issues with the tires, they stick good cold and warm up fast. I really like the even rounded profile they roll in and out of corners all most with out thought. It's very easy to control  my cornering line with the throttle. I belive they are the same compound as the Metzler Z-6's, in fact my tires say "made in germany"on the side wall. My last set of tires was a set of Z-6's that I ran at 34front/36 rear psi and I got 5000 miles out of them. I'm running 38front/40 rear psi on the Diablo's so I hope to eek a few more miles out of them plus they were $30.00 a pair cheaper than the Metzlers. I'm very happy with them and would recomind them with out reservation. Next report in a thousend miles or so.

I fully agree with you mike. I too got 5k out of my z6s and am now on the stradas. I've only got 200 miles or so on 'em so far but I do think I like them better. Like you say they roll in and out of the corners much smother where the z6s kinda flipped back and fourth.

Has anyone ridden this type (sport touring) of tyre at the track?

I just replaced my rear strata at aprox 5000 miles. It was an exlent tire to the end. For what it's worth I replaced it with a Z-6. It's the same tire with differnt badgeing I think. Any ways my Bandit seems to like both tires.

I just bought a 2001 bandit 1200s.  Part of the deal was the shop was going to put a new set of tires on it for me (his dime)  with that in mind, what should I get on it? I should probably mention that I've been out of the saddle for a while and have moved up to a "power-tourer" with the intention of taking my wife for short jaunts every once in a while.  Any other helpful hints about what should be looked for/at in the bike would be appreciated.  I'm hoping to shorten the learning curve through your experience.

Tire opinions are varied to say the least.  I ride pretty hard on my bike.  No chicken strips anywhere, EVER!  I have been using Dunlop D220 sportmax tires.  About 6k out of a set to as little as 4k depending on what I do to them.  If you are a typical street rider almost any "sport-touring" tire will be fine.  If you ride hard then you want to be more picky on your choice.  Just be honest with yourself and pick what seems good.
    I am sure many others will chime in here so check back often.  You will here ALOT of different things but it's all good advice on this site.  Just find the people who ride like you do and listen to what they say.

Go for the most expensive sport tire they got! Get some miles under your seat with the stickiest! They will last about 4k if you ride conservatively. If not 3k you will know what to get after!

Thanks.  I guess I'll do some more reading and some more asking of questions...  Jeepskate, being a neo.... I'm assuming a chickenstrip is one which doesn't get much action on the sidewalls??

Chickenstrips are the unused part of the tire near the edges.
The wider the "strip," the bigger the "chicken."
