Many metric and standard sizes are nearly identical... such as 13mm and 1/2", or 8mm and 5/16" in this case. Can come in handy in a pinch.

I too thought the metric vs. standard thing was odd. Glad I wasn't the only one

You know,.. I don't think I've ever pulled the standard tools out when working on the bikes.

It stands to reason that some of them would be the same, I guess I was just confused as to why a person would have the standard tools out to try with.

I think a 1/2inch and a 12mm would be a better match then a 1/2inch to

13mm!

You mean 1/2inch, not "12inch" I assume?

Sorry, but your'e wrong. Go check it out for yourself... bet you a beer!

A 12mm socket is too small to fit on a 1/2" nut, and a 1/2" wrench is too big for a 12mm nut. 13mm and 1/2" are almost exactly the same size.
