I know I was shocked when I moved to BC and my driver's license was something like $17 for 5 years. I have no idea if it's still that low, but it was incredibly strange.

I'm currently in Quebec and I've just renewed my license: $86 for two years.
That's the last time it'll be so cheap. Next year the various classifications will be split, so it'll be $86 for a class 5, and a motorcycle license will be an additonal $32 (on a sliding scale, going up to $66 in 2010).

Registration for the Bandit was $320 this year. That's on a sliding scale too, going up to $627 in 2010.
(Sport bikes will get nailed, with registration going up to $1427 in 2010. By comparison, 400cc bikes and less will see registration go up to $373.)

Man, that's highway robbery! I don't remember how much I paid here in Ontario last time, but I think it was under $50/year (I never pay for two years - why credit the bureaucrats?). Even that is a little high in my book considering it's just an administrative/processing fee.They rape us with insurance here though, but those are private companies, not the government.

Trying to figure out the logic behind these figures is pointless - it's obviously a cash grab and no one can convince me otherwise. I'll just vote with my wallet and move somewhere where the financial and meteorological climate is nicer. When I retire or much sooner if they piss me off. I moved to a different continent once and I can do it again. :taz:

Wow yes Quebec is a province that makes even Nova Scotia sounds cheap. Our licenses are around $80 for five years. Registration, which covers the bike plate only and not the beginning of insurance like yours does, is $27 for the year.

- Motorcycle - $45.54/yr
- Car - $70.54/yr
- Operator's Licence - $64.54/5yrs

Yeah....we're getting RAPED here in QC. I'm kinda happy my Bandit is only 400cc...I think registration was $250. Still, my CAR is $255/year, and I use it year round...I use my bike, what, 4 months max?

Luckily for us, we dont get killed on insurance. My Bandit was $85/year, my car (2006 WRX, one of the top 5 most stolen cars) is $1600/yr.

For comparison purposes, my girlfriends brother in Toronto pays about $3000/yr for a 2000 Subaru Impreza Outback...and thats only ONE WAY insurance!

I ride from early april to late Oct on the average... you can get more than 4months out of it, unless you're a very fair weather rider. I find as the year goes on, I'm less and less willing to put the bike away, and tend to "harden up" and ride in weather I wouldn't have thought to in the beginning of the year.

Heated grips will extend your riding year, and will be the best $30 you ever spend. It's also better for your charging system. Double win!

My first year on the bandit, I paid $400 a yr for theft and fire, plus third party liability. You're doing very well!

How many things has your brother-in-law hit? Tickets?? That sounds -really- high for a clean license.

It's just Toronto...insurance in the GTA is insane! I dont know how people can drive there.

They quoted my g/f $3000/yr on her old 1991 Honda Accord! Thats more than the car is worth!

I think I priced out something like $4000 for my car if I were to live in Toronto...but that was before, when I had a Mazda 6....I dont even wanna know what my WRX would cost!

Why does anyone live there again?? That's not the first thing I've heard about in GTA that's completely out of line for pirces...

The "comparative tables of insurance contribution" is interesting. It claims that a young motorcycle rider in Ontario will pay $13880 to insure a 750cc sportbike

Reading all this makes me glad I just visit Canada.

Although, I've heard of young riders getting charged a sportbike's MSRP for a year's worth of insurance down here, they don't usually have a clean driving record.

5-year original licence or renewal $75
Road Test Class 5, 6 $50

Bandit 400
Basic insurance with $1million 3rd party liability $147 for 3 months. (with a 35% discount)

$340 for 3months with Collision/Comprehensive (with 35% discount)

Plus the graduated licensing plans for new drivers and the elevated rates of fines in this lovely province. (No seatbelt $167)
