Hi Tony
So...did you end up going alone?

Yes -- All by myself.   :crybaby:

That is actually fine by me,  No schedules and no conflicts.  Just ride the ride. Aside from one not so great rider who doesn't know what a passing lane is for, and one very tiny little dog that seemed to like turning circles in the middle of the road in busy downtown Kalso -- ok not all that busy,  I had no issues.

I will add a little taste of my report.

Note how DH 2 promotes even tire wear.

And I was taking it easy.

Hey Tony.....
We did the Kootenays thing on the second weekend of August. There were 12 of us and we all camped. The weather sucked on Saturday out of Kaslo for the 31A ride....but cleared up by the time we got to New Denver. Maybe next year will be better....
Most of the guys headed home Sunday morning but 3 of us headed over on #6 for Vernon (cool and dampish but increasingly better going west) and by the time we got to the campground in Oliver it was actually a pleasant (although not as hot as usual) evening. The rest of the trip was slogging along on #3 eastbound and then up to Radium and the Marble Canyon campground for the last evening. It was a great 6 days.

Paul: Sorry we didn't try to get in touch when we zipped through Cranbrook because we were running a little behind at that point....
and the road boss had not/not made any campground reservations ANYWHERE. What a doofus. We did eventually find a place to put up our tents....but it wasn't easy. More luck than anything.

I rode out on Friday afternoon and into a series of rain storms.  I was pretty wet and cold by the time I got to Revelstoke.  Saturday was cloudy all the way to Vernon.  The sun came out just after Venon.  It was pretty nice from then on to Radium on Monday morning.  Cold and foggy all the way to Canmore.

I still haven't had a chance to go through the photos yet so I will have to conclude in few days.

Tony and all:

That's the link to my PB album of this trip. We had a great time and the weather (finally) cooperated after all. Enjoy the shots.....which unfortunately are poorly organized. Eventually I'll remember to load the LAST shots FIRST and vice versa. :duh:

The short long time story of my trip out and back again.

I started out on Friday afternoon and rode straight into a series of storms and a very cold wind.  Still in all not that bad as I plugged in when I stopped for gas in Canmore, and the ambient temperature was high enough that I was warm enough to ride.

I made Revelstoke before dark and checked into a motel for the night.  There was not much of an improvement in the weather by morning.

I stayed on Highway One for a while and stopped at Three Valley Gap, something that I seldom do.  I often pass by, but I don’t stop.

It is not all that far from Revelstoke so there was no real improvement in the weather

From there I pushed on to Vernon and did side trip up to Silver Star, a nice side road and worth the effort, sorry no pictures from there.

Next it was on to Lumby and a run down DH2

The weather really improved during the morning and by Lunch at the Gold Pan it was really warming up

There were many bikers there and even a Spyder, (what my wife calls a special needs bike)

On to the ferry and that wonderful ride over the mountain and the great downhill run to the ferry dock and a short wait for the ferry.
Nice short story within a story, I waited in the line up, a pack of Harley riders, including the Spyder pulled into the side parking lot.  When we started loading the ferry I went in my turn, and the Harley guys tried to cut into line.
They did manage and were sent of to the front of one line on one side of the ferry I was directed to the other side of the deck.  I remembered that my wife wanted me to check out the Spyder to see if the instrument panel was Large Print.  As I was one and they were many I chose not to check.
Anyway as we approached the dock, the very nice lady deck hand walked passed me pausing to say “if you are ready, I will send you out first.”  I said “I'm ready and thank you”

I was in Nakusp and refueled before the first Harley made it to town.

From there is was down to New Denver for coffee

The plan was to visit Nelson, a place I had never been.  I didn’t know that there was a car show and shine all over town,
Check out the wheels in town

Here are a couple of shots from the main street.

And one from my motel room

Nice wheels everywhere and I really think I should try to make it back for the weekend with my boy, who makes rods for a living
This is one of his builds

It was on to Kaslo for breakfast the next morning and it was nice for a change.

On to the ferry at Crawford bay and many of the cars from Nelson made the same ride.

Got to love some of these and that ford truck is awesome.

And this paint job.

From the ferry I made tracks to Creston and Cranbrook and finally to Radium for the night.

Fog in the morning and it was cold.  The electrics were just not up to the job.

This last shot is from the red rock canyon on the way home and where my battery on the camera died.

From there it was a straight ride home and a few stops to warm up.
