Just ordered an Eiko 100w H7 Super White for the high beam yesterday from BikeBandit.com for $12.55 + $4.00 shipping. It has a metal base. We'll see how it works out when it gets here.

They also have black 4-point cargo net bunjees for $1.99 each... got two of 'em.  :bandit:

I didn't look at the headlights that closely in the hubbub of the Cycle World show, but what a great improvement.  I totally HATE the Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes (may god rest her soul) look of the old B12 when the high-beam is off.

Just seems a little puzzling they chose a 55w high beam.

It would be interesting if someone can get a 2G and a newer Bandit together for some night shots of headlight pattern and brightness for a comparison.

The best I can figure is the reflector design with both bulbs combined does make a pretty bright beam... many folks may be happy with it stock. I'm just upgrading because I have absolutely horrible night vision.

Now we just need a volunteer to meet up with you that has a 2G Bandit S with unmolested headlights.
(Leaves me out.)

Whatsamatter... scared you'll lose the headlight race?

Just kidding... I can always just pop the stock bulb back in, but yours is modified beyond return, isn't it?  :bandit:

No, Bazza modded his beyond return with the Hella mod, but I can go back.
If I ever wanted sucky headlights back.

I just pulled the reflectors and installed HIR bulbs like the Dodge Vipers (and a few other cars) use. One tab on each bulb must be trimmed to fit in the socket, but that's quick and easy. So far, haven't needed to change any HIR bulbs though.

Well, the new bulb arrived yesterday... fast shipping!

Haven't messed with the H7 bulbs on a bike before, so when I removed the high beam I was suprised to see that the hard plastic "bakelight" base is an adapter... the old bulb pops off and you plug in the new one and put the whole thing back in the socket and snap the wire clip back on.

Except the blades on the new bulb were a hair too long, so I touched them up on the grinder (careful not to touch the bulb) and it worked fine.

Can't ride yet but I fired 'er up and flipped the high beam on and it really lit the shop up! I left it running for about ten minutes to see if the wires or base would heat up... nothing. Looks like it's gonna work.

BTW... the cargo nets are 6-point, not 4-point... pretty nice for only $1.99 each.

I can do it since I have both at the moment.

well here is what I could do in the garage, i will try and get my bud to ride the B12 out with me and we can do some back road comparisons.
For the record both my bikes are completely stock and no adjustments for beam placement have been made.

Both bikes on low beam.

Both bikes on HB

B12.5 on low beam

B12 on Low

B12.5 on HB

B12 on HB

He hee! In the first two pics, the B12.5 headlight looks like a Mickey Mouse head!

Man, it's kinda hard to tell anything from the pics... the B12.5 looks slightly whiter and wider, but that could be because it's new.

What were your impressions?

Is there any way you could point them both at a flat, feaureless surface at night? For instance, if you had them outside pointed at your closed garage door?

Might make a better pic that way.

+1 :thumb:

Kinda like this comparison of a 2G B12 with blockers removed and HIR bulbs (on the left) vs a 2G with stock lights (on the right), both dim:

Both on bright:

HIR's on dim, stock lights on bright:
