'98 Bandit rear peg bracket
« on: March 03, 2013, 10:33:45 AM »
Stupid me, :duh: :duh: :duh: I got a little heavy handed straightening the rear left peg bracket and broke it. Are the brackets interchangeable between the 1998 600 and 1200? Looks different for later years of 1200 and not sure if it will mount up properly? Good used parts supplier you've used besides hunting e-bay?

Which exact bit did you break? The 600 has brackets/bars welded onto the subframe for the pillion pegs to bolt to, whereas the 1200 has it's own carriers which are seperate from the subframe and can be removed. If you broke the actually bracket on a 600 you'll need to get it welded back on. :thumb:

The two are not interchangable.

Depending on what country you are in you may also find the bike fails it's next MOT (or equivalent) if you don't replace/fix it.

It's on a 1200S so the bracket is removable, but you answered my question. I wonder if I can have the 2 broken pieces of the bracket welded back together and be strong enough?

I would no advise trying to weld it simply because of the cost of buying a replacement 2nd hand one (dependant on your location of course).
Most of the metals on these bikes aren't the most pure and hence it can be tricky to get a strong weld, but certainly not impossible.  Bare in mind the bracket has to hold up the entire weight of a pillion and more when they stand on it to swing their right leg over.

Are you sure that the bracket is the piece that bent? Normally it is the mounting plate which is welded onto the frame that bends.

All the best,

Yes, your probably right. That's my original plan to source a used part but I haven't located the left one yet. Lots of right ones! I may go international and pay shipping since there is one across the ocean.... or forget it for now since I don't ride a passenger on this bike. The 2nd gen Bandit 1200(after '00) has a slightly different style bracket but was wondering if the 2 holes to frame line up and has same length to match other side?
