1200 '07 UK with GSRX1000 K5 Front End
« on: August 15, 2007, 03:33:16 AM »
Hi Guys ... hope someone can help.

I've just bought a GSRX1000 K5 Front End with Calapers.  Looks great! .. But what am I going to need to stick it on my Bandit?

Is it shorter? .. A few threads seem to sugest it is.

Will I need to press in the old stem?

Will I need new wheel/disks/mudguard/bar conversion?

I have an acewel speedo and H/Lamp brackets.

I have the front end now - so I'm gonna need solutions - not "You should've got..!"

Thanks guys....

You will need to use the Bandit stem.
Pretty sure you'll need the matching wheel, rotors, axle, front fender.
You'll need a bar conversion if you want to run handlebars.
I would suspect a steering damper would be advisable since with the shorter front end, the geometry is going to be pretty quick.

You will need the GSXR wheel, guard, discs and calipers.
Unfortunately the K5 1000 went to a different front end so they are not interchangeable like the 01-04 1000/750/600 models.
The Hayabusa run the same wheel as the TL which is different to the GSXRs.
So to save a lot of dramas it will be better to use K5 1000 everything.

I just did the swap on my '03 B12 and after I got the parts it was a fairly simple job.
You will also need to get a spacer machined up for the top clamp as the Bandit stem is a smaller diameter than the GSXR one at the top where the two meet.

I got one of these ABM top clamps so I could avoid clip-ons.

The forks are shorter but if you keep the ride height at the rear as close to stock as possible you shouldn't have any problems with stability or clearance.

Thanks for that Cruise.

Now it turns out that a front wheel for a 2005 GSXR1000 is a bit like Rocking Horse Poo ... very hard to find!

Would any other wheels fit?

Cheers...

You should* be able to use a 2002 onwards 600/750/1000 wheel as they run the same bearings and spacer as the K5 so that is a fairly good indication that the hub sizes are the same. You will need to use a K5 axle though as they changed for that model and the earlier ones won't fit.
The only hassle then is making sure the discs line up with the calipers, but it is nothing a spacer or two can't fix.

*I am not 100%

Verry cool - thanks Cruse.

I have the spindle and a mate with a lot of spares - gonna have a look.

do you have the dimentions of the spacer you made for the top yokes? - I can get that made up before taking my running bike to bits and getting the ruler out!

Cheers :thanks:

The inside diameter (Bandit stem) is 23mm and the outside diameter (2002 GSXR yoke) is 25mm.

It would be best to check the OD on the K5 yoke as it may be different and to get the length of the spacer just measure the thickness of the yoke (again it may differ from year to year).

Stainless steel was the material of choice for this application.
