are centerstands standard? -what is a good paddock stand
« on: June 13, 2006, 12:41:51 PM »
I recently bought a 2002 Bandit 1200 without a center stand.  I just got a copy of the owners manual & checked out the section on chain care & the first step was place the bike on the center stand.  Huh?  Was the centerstand optional on these bikes or did someone take this one off?

Is a paddock stand a better choice?

thanks,
-azzie

Someone took it off.

Personally, I like the centerstand better than a paddock stand for maintenance.

1) It's always there, no matter where I am.
2) You can take the swingarm off if you ever need to.

I don't ride hard enough to need to loose it for cornering clearance.

Perhaps the PO still has it gathering dust?

That's kind of what I figured.   I guess I have some calls to make, wish me luck.

This is the paddock stand that I have.  The accessories manager at my dealer says he thinks it's the best one on the market.

If you're unable to find a center stand I have a paddock stand I had for my Gixxer 1100 that I sold.  Your swing arm has threaded holes for the "swing arm buttons" so its easy to do.

Pit Bull makes very nice stands. The rear works with or without swingarm spools and the front 2 piece converter will lift by the fork tubes or under the steering head. Very sturdy construction will last a lifetime.

above is the front converter-no photos of the rear but you get the idea. They have a website as well.

Good Luck, Ed.

I personally don't like the LP stand.  It's MUCH more flimsy than a Pit Bull.  The PB is more spendy but if you handled them back-to-back, you'd instantly understand why.

For my B4, however, the LP works better.  The B4 has such a narrow s/a, it's helpful to be able to bend it a little to make the paddles closer together.  I'd hate to try to bend the PB like that.

Just my $.02

Do the bike have the stock exhaust/header?  It could be that the previous owner took off the centerstand to make clearance for an aftermarket exhaust system.
