On a trip, you probably won't be doing a good chain cleaning...  Alone--just throw some newspaper down, spray the entire bottom of the chain and rear sprocket -roll it forward and do the other half...  Personally, I'd stay away from chain waxes in that situation and just go with a standard lube...

If you have someone to help...  have them tilt the bike's rear tire in the air using the side stand as a support.. then you can spin the rear wheel...

And then when you get home do the chain clean and lube like you normally would with a wheel stand.  Heck, some people only have a side stand, so they always make do with the side stand tilt method.

Of course, the real red neck method with dirt bikes that have no stands (like my old YZ250-I used to use a Borden milk crate found (ahemmm...) outside a convenience/grocery store loading area.  Never work with a streetbike, but you get the idea, be inventive...

You can tilt it on the side stand to get the wheel to move.  Its a tricky balancing act though and best done with a buddy to hold it still while you spin % lube.

If the sidestand balancing act makes you nervous, you can squirt the visible run, push the bike forward a bit and squirt again and repeat until you get the whole thing.

this is how I used to oil the chain on my old cruiser. oil a section move it, next section move it etc.

I took off my centerstand on my bandit, but I got a rear wheel stand.. Makes life easy having the front and rear wheel stand. Seems like a must have for anyone without a centerstand.
