Knocking

Whilst riding my ears have tuned into a knocking sound, on further inspection I found the noise was from the front brake holders (calipers i think is the word), when I grabbed hold and shook them side to side it was the same sound, they are tight and I have no steering problems at all.

Is this normal noise?

When was the last time you look and serviced your front brake?

strip it down off the bike but dont take the lines out and check the pads and see if the pistons return once you remove the pads. the pads should have a thin metal shim plate which holds the brake pad in, and in between this, there is a fiberglass spacer (well there is on mine B6 99').

Hope this helps. But the noise i've never herd that before. Let us know what it is.
