Strange brake noise on brand new bike
« on: May 24, 2008, 03:59:18 AM »
Hi Guys,

I've bought a brand new GSX650F, which I believe is basically a faired Bandit 650.  I have noticed that when I apply the front brake while travelling above about 30km/h it makes a strange sound.   Not like a squeal or screech, more like a a cricket chirping.  Its not loud or annoying but I have never heard it on any of the other bikes I have owned.  I am wondering if this might be normal when bedding in brand new pads and rotors (something I have never done before, this is my first new bike).  Or should I be concerned?

Dont know the bike, or type of rotors used.

But yes you can get astrange sound happening, at the best I could discribe it as like the noise made with a cutting tool on a mill or lathe, cutting down steel stock.

Normal and nothing to worry about. :thumb:

The brake rotors are semi-floating the noise you can hear is the "give"in the rotor, perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Hi Guys,

That's what it is all right.
The only difference between the 2007 650 Bandit and the 2008 GSX is the addition of a full fairing and the removal of ABS as an option.
