hi all, i have a 2000 bandit 600 and have never been able to get it up on the centerstand.  i weigh about 135 lbs.  is there some kind of technique to use, or am i just too small of stature to make it happen?   :motorsmile:

I'm lighter then you and don't have any problems. The first time its kinda tricky. After that it's easy. It's probably best if you can find someone to show you how.

But here is the idea.
1. Start with the bike on its side stand;
2. Grip left handlebar with left hand;
3. Grip frame member with right hand;
4. Place foot on center stand lever;
5. Pushing down on center stand, tilt bike till both legs of center stand touch ground;
6. Push down hard with foot and lift/pull on frame member.

Remember use your legs not your back! The bike should roll up onto the center stand fairly easily if you're doing it right.

I use to have trouble too. Make sure you use your left foot on the centerstand. Grab the rail under the left side of the rear of the bike and the left grip. You will be somewhat leaned over. Straighten your body and it should pop right up. If you feel uneasy, have a friend stand on the other side of the bike the first couple times till you get the hang of it. :beers:

Yep, had problems too! my resolve was to take it off, I use a paddock stand if I need the back wheel off the ground now.

Think of the weight I've saved! :banana:

I had been trying to do this for about a month and couldn't get it till 2 days ago. Do exactly what interfuse said, and after you get it up one time you'll say that wasn't that hard :duh:

It is one of the harder center-stands I've used.  It's my wife's 600 but even at 260lbs I can just get it onto the stand with about 3 tries.  I had an easier time with my 800lb Yamaha Venture.  I think it needs to be about 1/4" shorter.

The biggest thing is to use your leg to lever the bike up onto the stand.  I also have a 00 600 I'm 5'8 and I weigh 140ish. Think of using your hand as the stationary point and trying to push your foot away from your hand. Its more about pushing the stand down than lifting the bike up.  I also always use my right foot.

would i use one explosive move, or should it be a pretty slow smooth transition upward?   :roll:

Use one smooth and steady movement. Pull up on the rear and push down on the centerstand. I use my left foot but whichever should work. Once you do it, you'll see its real easy when you get the hang of it.

I agree, just push/pull steadily. Jerking can get you hurt or make it harder to control the bike. I havn't dropped mine yet getting it on to the stand but I did have it suddenly change directions and drop back onto the wheels the other day. Remember you are using a lever to raise the bike. I've seen guys smaller than I am put heavier bikes on the stand with the proper technique.
Now if they just made centerstand *banned*........ :lol:

Got a B-12 myself.  Its easy but I've been doing it for years.  If you do it right, ablsoutely NO lifting is required.  Just hold the bike stable, one hand on the grip and the other on the rear peg bracket.  Step straight down on the centerstand lever using your full body weight.... thats it.

I don't know if this helps or if anyone else thinks of it this way but
I grad the handlebar and the rail and put my foot(right for me)
against the stand just like everybody else.  The problem arises when
you think than you need to lift the bike somehow.

The process is actually more a lean to the back and right while
arching your back somewhat.  If you gets this down then the
procedure is effortless.  Now I'm not the smallest rider here by
any means but I've seen a moderately athletic 100lb girl easily
put my bike up on the center stand after I showed her how.

thanks everyone for the help  :beers: i was finally able to put my B6 on the centerstand, and was surprised how little effort was needed.  i used my right foot (bandibull) on the stand, and rocked back and up in one fluid motion, letting my weight do all the work, rather than my arms.  again,  :thanks:   you all rock!!!

Sheesh, I just lift the bike up off the ground and shake it until the center stand opens up....  :wink:
