Cam chain/adjuster noise isn't unheard of on older Bandits, especially if the miles are high and/or care and maintenance low.
The factory cam chain adjuster is automatic, but it has a limited amount of travel. There are aftermarket manual cam chain adjusters available to replace the stock piece and these will adjust further. That way you won't have to install a new chain right away, you can put it off until the manual one won't take up the slack anymore... but it will be something you'll have to pay attention to during periodic maintenance.
