carburator and gas tank blues.

98 bandit, 35 k miles. 600s has been not runing since 99 ( rode it arround the block for 3 miles)

Is almost all back toghether, but as i m puting the last bolts on it, i noticed the gas tank leaked from the back botom part.

taking a closer look at it, it has pin holes all over.  Tank is toasted.

So i m looking for a new(used) tank, do you know what other than 98 would fit my 600 ? would a 1200 fit ?

Also another isue, it starts with the choke and as it warms up, i need no choke BUT when i give it gas, it sometimes stays in the 2k range and then goes down back to 1k rpms.
So i moved the idle screw adjustment and it  idles very ruff at 1k or 900 rpms if i open the idle screw more, the bike starts  hanging in the 2k range and then going down to 1 k after 30 seconds or puting in first gear and leting the clutch a bit.

Otherwise runs great, accelerates really nice too.

The pilots are still factory sealed. I took the carbs out and cleaned them all the jets and passages inside the carb.

Adjusted the floats and everything looks in good working order.

jets are factory size.

any sugestions ?

Lots of tanks on ebay, as cheap as $30 bucks, as expensive as $200, but I saw some nice metal for $70. You will have to keep emptying your carb bowls for awhile to get allt he junk out, ditch the tank, empty the bowls a few times and you should be ok.
Good luck. I went thru the same thing earlier this year, bike is fine now.

Thanks for your reply, the problem is that i dont see none for 98 and i m way unsure if other years or models (like the 1200 ones), will fit in my bike.
leave alone no blue tanks :)

The bike is definatelly rideable as the carbs go, but messes with my head that i know something isn`t right.

A 2000 or older B12 tank will work fine, as will a 1999 or older B6 tank. Only differences are color and the B12 has the goodies for a gas gauge. If you get a B12 tank, be sure you get the sending unit plate or you'll have a big hole in the bottom of the tank and will have to buy or make a piece to close it up.

I would also check for vacuum leaks.  If your throttle is inconistent, it may be due to a vacuum leak.
