If you are talking about a small gas tank, I use a old plastic gas tank from a lawn mower, holds about 1/2 gal of gas.
I have used the tank from the bike, and set it on my tool box, with a long hose.

i just have a relative long hose on my bike so i can turn the tank and let it rest on the seat without removing it

go to an auto parts store, and but ??ft piece of rubber fuel line. I dont know for sure, but if bandit has vac petcock, you will need to set it on 'pri' . or run a second line to the petcock.

Remove tank, place it above carbs and hook it up.

Run the bike for a minute or so to get all the air out of the line.

when done shut off the petcock and remove hose from tank, holding it up while bike is running to get most of the fuel out of the line....

I use a radiator overflow tank from a busa... not pretty but very functional . M

So....why do you need a tank at all? On my fz1, I would just flip the tank up, put on the hoses from the carb balancer, adjust the screws. Boom. Done. Is there some reason why you need an accessory tank on a Bandit?

What I have found is you need to work on a warmed up engine. Then get everything ready first (ie tank off/up, balancer connected to vacuum ports, screwdriver at the ready, enough light to see the screws, screws already located). Then it should be a 5 min. job! Then again, I'm talking about on the FZ1....I already noticed the procdeure is a LITTLE different on a Bandit acc to Clymer).

I wasn't trying to imply I was super-gifted mechanically. I'm not, trust me. I was honestly curious b/c I'm going to be adjusting my valves soon and I know I',m gonna want to balance the carbs. I just wanted to know if [/b]I was gong to have to scrounge up an accessory tank.

K&L Supply sells a small auxillary tank exactly for this purpose. Holds about a quart of gas and has a fuel shut off. Problem with a lawnmower tank is there is no gas shut off and to turn off the gas supply, you have to lower the tank below the level of the carburetors. Most any local bike shop that sells carb kits or shop supplies is also a K&L dealer as K&L sells only wholesale (not to public).

Well, thanks for all the input guys. I already have synced my carbs using the extended fuel line method but I found it a little awkward moving the tank around. Not to mention scratching that beautiful new paint. But I did realise that I didn't check each dial gauge on a single carb to sync them up first so I am going to do it again. This is where I am going to get fancy and maybe hang the tank above the bike from the garage ceiling on bungies. I'll have to get a picture of that if that happens. Then again, if I'm all warmed up and set to go, maybe the fuel in the carbs is all I need. With the tank off, it's an easy reach to the adjustment screws.
