Chain recommendation
« on: September 28, 2008, 04:14:25 PM »
The recent posts about chain tight, uh adjusting were a big help.  I have been using a non o-ring chain since I over tightened and prematurely ruined the expensive 0-ring chain. The sprockets were still good so I threw a cheap, non o-ring chain on. (it lasted almost 8K miles).
Anyway it's time to replace the C & Ss, I bought new sprockets and need to buy a new chain, so I'm wondering if anyone has any chain recommendations?

I have always used DID Premium VM series chains. They last quite a while, I have around 25000kms ( ~ 15000 miles ) on my current one and its still going strong.

I bought a Regina chain/JT sprocket kit from Dennis Kirk for my 600. Chain and sprockets are worn now, but they've done over 30,000 kms. Still useable, but starting to slap and make some noise.

This is only time I have noticed any difference between the JT front (solid sprocket) and the factory (rubber cushion). Once the chain started to wear, it has gotten a little noisier. However, the stock sprockets and chain were toast at 18,000 kms. The 600 uses a lower spec chain than the 1200.

Regina 530ZRT...you can find it here:

I've only used premium DID's myself. My OE chain was toast (missing rollers!) @ 15K miles. Replaced it with a DID VM which lasted 25K miles.  The current chain is a ZVM which has ~10K on it and is still going strong.  I expect it to last at least as long, if not longer, than the VM, since it's supposed to be an even stronger chain.  DID has since come out with a ZVM2...

The best chain you can get for the Bandits is the DID 530 ZVM2. It is the strongest chain and rated for the Hyabusa +.
